CONCEPTIONS OF HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ABOUT THE
“MAIS INGLÊS” PLATFORM

This research aimed to analyze the conceptions of high school teachers and students regarding to the Mais Inglês Platform, an English language teaching platform in the Mato Grosso public school system, established by public policies on foreign languages through a Law of the Government of the State of Mato Grosso. The research is characterized as qualitative-interpretative, focusing on subjective aspects of social phenomena and human behavior. Data collection instruments included participant observation with field notes and semi-structured interviews with audio recordings. The investigation was conducted in Cláudia, Mato Grosso, Brazil, a city within the Sinop Regional Education Directorate. Teachers and students were observed in the classroom both with and without the use of the Mais Inglês Platform. Subsequently, the observed teachers and students participated in semi-structured interviews. It was necessary to understand the reality experienced by the participants in their teaching experiences, seeking to explore the perceptions, challenges, and possibilities faced in the teaching and learning of English within this government-funded program. The data obtained suggest there are challenges faced but also possibilities for learning. They can also contribute to the development of educational policies more suited to the realities and challenges faced in public schools, promoting English language teaching that is more inclusive and accessible and meets the needs of students.
