This dissertation analyzes selected poems from the work Versos Adversos: antologia (2006), by D. Pedro Casaldáliga, focusing on the poetic images created through the linguistic and literary resources of the author’s social poetry. The metaphorical language, enhanced by the critical and ironic tone adopted throughout the texts, strengthens a literary voice that becomes, at the same time, the voice of the oppressed between the 1960s and 1980s, in the municipality of São Félix do Araguaia, in Mato Grosso. The study highlights aesthetic and imagetic aspects of a poetry that outlines a scenario of social injustices through a profound spirituality, bringing the poet closer to the religious dimension, in a true epiphanic communion. The verses presented convey a prophetic literature, intensified by historical and social issues, capable of transforming the literary text into a poetic manifesto that demands justice and hope for marginalized peoples. The research is qualitative and grounded in a bibliographic review, within an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on philosophy, theology, literary theory, and criticism, in order to support the analytical construction of the poems in Versos Adversos: antologia (2006). Among the theorists referenced are philosophical, theological, and literary criticism contributions from: Bosi (1977, 1992, 1994, 2002); Candido (1996, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006); Hegel (1996); Regidor (1996); Santos (2018); Darolt (2021); Souza; Reis (2014), among others.
