RESUMO:

This dissertation, entitled Semantic-Lexical Atlas of Nova Brasilândia – Mato Grosso, analyzed the semantic-lexical variation present in the speech of the inhabitants of the municipality of Nova Brasilândia – MT, considering the relationships between language, space, culture, and historical processes of territorial occupation. The study was grounded in the theoretical assumptions of Geolinguistics, Variationist Sociolinguistics, and Pluridimensional Dialectology, based on the understanding that the lexicon constitutes a cultural and identity heritage of speech communities. The objective was to record, describe, and interpret the lexical variants used in urban, rural, and district contexts of the municipality, highlighting the effects of migration, social mobility, and sociocultural transformations on the constitution of the local linguistic repertoire. A qualitative-quantitative approach of a descriptive-interpretative nature was adopted, guided by the methodological principles of the Linguistic Atlas of Brazil (ALiB). Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews and the application of the Semantic-Lexical Questionnaire (SLQ), involving 48 informants distributed across six survey points located in the urban, rural, and district areas of Nova Brasilândia – MT. The participants were organized according to gender, age group, educational level, place of origin, and sociocultural background. The data were recorded, transcribed in graphematic format, organized into lexical records, and analyzed according to semantic-lexical, social, and spatial criteria. The results demonstrated that the sociolinguistic configuration of the municipality is marked by migratory processes originating from different regions of Brazil, favoring contact among varieties of Portuguese and the constitution of hybrid lexical repertoires in which conservative and innovative forms coexist. It was observed that rural areas tend to preserve traditional variants related to agricultural and livestock activities, fauna, flora, and local cultural practices, whereas the urban space shows a greater circulation of lexical innovations influenced by schooling, mass media, and digital technologies. Therefore, it was possible to conclude that semantic-lexical variation in Nova Brasilândia – MT results from the interaction among historical, geographical, social, and cultural factors, revealing language as a dynamic social practice constitutive of collective memory. This research contributes to geolinguistic studies in Mato Grosso, to the documentation of regional Brazilian Portuguese, and to the appreciation of the linguistic and cultural heritage of the investigated community.
