This thesis formulates an ontological model for classifying fantastic literature and tests its explanatory scope through its application to Torto Arado, by Itamar Vieira Junior (2019). The study departs from the insufficiency of the paradigms that define the Fantastic either by the reader’s hesitation or by its subversive function, since both lose descriptive power when faced with narratives in which the Impossible is established as a fact of the narrated world. In place of the psychology of perception, the research adopts the ontology of narrative and regards as fantastic the story whose field of forces of the central Conflict is governed, in decisive part, by a causality incompatible with the laws of the reader’s consensual reality. From this definition follows a system of six Orders of Reality, described by the ontological tripod of Causality, Knowledge and Power, to which are added the Typology of the Character, the Journey Archetypes, the Axes of Fantastic Criticism and the Five-Stage Analysis Flow. The research is bibliographical, qualitative in approach and theoretical-analytical in nature, and it articulates the critical examination of classical and contemporary models of the Fantastic with a close reading of the Brazilian edition of the novel. The application of the Flow demonstrates that Torto Arado constitutes a fantastic narrative of Hybrid Reality, with mixed causality, knowledge integrated into culture, and power distributed between human agents and entities under conditions that the text states as rules. The classification rests on three mutually independent results: the decisive participation of the impossible force in the field of forces, verified by the suppression test applied to the denouement; the authentication of that efficacy by the narrated world, established through four textual proofs; and the exclusion of the five competing Orders, each confronted with the structural property proper to it. The results indicate that the ontological architecture of the novel is a condition of possibility of its political project, since it renders formulable relations between the ontological rule, the legal dispute over the land and the agency of the characters that thematic reading records without articulating. The description of fictional laws remains distinct from any judgement upon practised cosmologies, so that the examination of the Jarê on the causal plane of the narrative implies no evaluation of the religion.
