RESUMO:

Presented to the Postgraduate Program in Letters (PPGLetras), of the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT), Sinop campus, this ongoing research deals with the relationships between myth, history and literature, based on a literary object, The Vampire Who Discovered Brazil, in which the author, Ivan Jaf, presents national history from the perspective of a vampire, who, in fiction, accompanies and interferes in the main events that mark official history, from the "discovery" to the Republic. The research problematizes the narrative of official history, presupposing that literature presents its own version through the metaphor of vampirism. The general objective of the research is, through the work The Vampire Who Discovered Brazil, to develop a study on the metaphor of the vampire, showing the capacity of literature to subvert official versions of history through metaphors; The specific objectives are: to discuss the relationship between literature and history, to analyze the dialogue between the book *The Vampire Who Discovered Brazil* and the official history of Brazil, and to verify the relationship between myth and reality and myth and language. This is a qualitative research, since the investigation intends to study the phenomena that relate history, myth, and literature; the strategy relies on bibliographic review, with research in theoretical works, criticism, and scientific articles. After the Introduction, in which the main axes of the research are indicated, the Dissertation presents a discussion regarding the relationship between literature, history, myth, and fiction, based on the understanding that these are, ultimately, complementary narratives; then the research presents some more structural aspects of Ivan Jaf's work; finally, the research highlights the journey of the vampire Antônio Brás in the time and space of Brazil, following five centuries of its history, from the discovery to the first days of Brasília; in the conclusion, a general overview of the chapter discussions is made. In the theoretical framework, authors such as Ernst Cassirer (2013), Câmara Cascudo (1984), Antonio Candido (2004; 2006), Mircea Eliade (2016), among others, are highlighted. As a result, it is hoped that the research may instigate a reinterpretation of the official history of Brazil through literature.
