SCENES IN SONGS: CINEMATIC IMAGERY IN THE LYRICS OF CHICO BUARQUE DE HOLLANDA
Cinematic imagery. Cinema. Song lyrics. Chico Buarque.
In this thesis, we seek to understand the image through cinematic imagery, perceiving it in the lyrics of Brazilian composer Chico Buarque de Hollanda. The natural and historical condition that enabled the reading of the world and of art itself through the image opens up a wide range of interpretative and critical possibilities, one of which lies in the reading of song lyrics and their relationships with the culture of film narrative. This research uses the expression cinematic imagery in order to clarify that the analyses are focused on the perception of film scenes in the poetry manifested in the artist's song lyrics. In A Philosophy of Cinematic Art, British philosopher Berys Gaut clarifies that the philosophy of film is established as a consolidated part of aesthetics, encompassing a well-defined group of questions, which are of great importance for the conceptualization of cinema as cinematic narration. So, what is cinematic imagery and how is the reading of texts done with cinematic eyes?
