RESUMO:

In light of the concept of autofiction, emphasizing the interplay between fragmented memories and literary creation in the narrative construction of the Mato Grosso writer Tereza Albues, this study aims to analyze the works Pedra Canga (1987), Chapada da palma roxa (1990), A travessia dos sempre vivos (1993), and O berro do cordeiro em Nova York (1995), with the intent of investigating the means through which the author creates her autofictional universe. It explores the intersection between her lived experiences and her imagination, along the thin - often imperceptible and deliberate - line between reality and fiction. To achieve this, the study will draw on the works of theorists who have researched autofiction, such as Doubrovsky (1977, 1980, 2010); Colonna (1989, 2004); Lejeune (1993, 2008); Lecarme (1993); Vilain (2005, 2009); Jeannelle (2007); Gasparini (2009); Figueiredo (2013); Noronha (2014); Perrone-Moisés (2016); and Faedrich (2022). Furthermore, based on research into Albues's life trajectory and literary production, one can recognize connections between certain elements included in her plots and her personal experiences. One of the strategies the author uses to reinforce the autofictional pact in these narratives is the exploration of the setting in which they unfold, considering that human conflicts develop in small towns in the interior of Mato Grosso. In this context, the writer reconstructs the landscape of her childhood through personal and collective memories, inserting fantastic elements while still preserving and promoting the unique characteristics of the Mato Grosso people - their beliefs, values, worldview, as well as local habits and customs - without resorting to exoticism or the picturesque. In this regard, the study will also examine the aspects of regionalism present in the novels analyzed in this research, based on theorists dedicated to this theme, such as Bosi (2015), Candido (2000a, 2000b), Chiappini (1995, 2014), Perrone-Moisés (2016), and Schøllhammer (2009). Additionally, the research intends to observe how the author’s individual memory, intertwined with the collective memory of those who were part of her life, contributes to the narrative construction and the development of a plot with high aesthetic value, while also enabling her own identity (re)construction. This analysis will be grounded in the theories of Halbwachs (1990), Nora (1993), Ricoeur (2007), Sarlo (2007) and Assmann (2011). Thus, it demonstrates that Albues reinvented her personal experiences within a carefully crafted literary space, employing a wide range of autofictional strategies, despite the genre being little known and scarcely discussed at the time these works were published.
