RESUMO:

Youth and Adult Education (YAE) has been recognized as a strategic field for the development of pedagogical practices that acknowledge students’ life trajectories and promote meaningful learning in Biology education. Within this context, this study aimed to propose and implement an investigative didactic sequence focused on student protagonism, addressing the themes of genetics and cancer in upper secondary YAE, integrating scientific knowledge, health education, and digital technologies. The research adopted a qualitative approach of an interventionist nature and was conducted with a YAE high school class in a public school in the municipality of Cáceres, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The pedagogical intervention was structured into three stages and carried out over eight face-to-face classes, complemented by extracurricular activities. The activities involved problematization of prior knowledge, investigative learning tasks, collective discussions, and the production of science communication materials, including the development of an educational blog as a digital space for organizing and sharing knowledge. The results indicated that the investigative approach enhanced student engagement and protagonism, increased participation in classroom activities, and contributed to the advancement of conceptual understanding related to genetics and cancer. The production of educational materials and the use of digital tools supported the development of scientific literacy, intellectual autonomy, and the communication of scientific information in accessible language. It was concluded that the proposed didactic sequence fostered more meaningful learning experiences and reaffirmed YAE as a space for comprehensive human development and for the construction of contextualized scientific knowledge, contributing to the confrontation of scientific misinformation.
