RESUMO:

This study presents an Investigative Teaching proposal based on the construction of terrariums as a didactic model for the observation, investigation, and experimentation of ecological concepts in Biology classes. The proposal was developed with a second-year high school class at the Escola Estadual Gonçalo Botelho de Campos, located in the municipality of Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The objective of the research was to analyze the effectiveness of using terrariums as a didactic model in the teaching of Ecology through a mixed approach, by comparing the performance of students who participated in an Investigative Teaching Sequence (ITS). The results showed a significant improvement in students’ learning, with the average number of correct answers increasing from 6.8 in the pre-test questionnaire to 10.0 in the post-test questionnaire. It is concluded that the use of terrariums as a representational model, combined with Investigative Teaching, effectively contributed to the learning of ecological concepts, promoting the understanding of the relationships between biotic and abiotic factors and encouraging student protagonism.
