RESUMO:

The Amazon biome plays an important planetary benefit in maintaining socio-ecological balance and human and animal health. However, the predatory economic model, driven by development policies in the Amazon, has resulted in changes in land use, socio-environmental degradation and increased socioeconomic inequalities. This compromises the ecosystem's ability to provide its ecosystem services, affecting environmental health and, consequently, human health. Located in the Southern Amazon, in the arc of deforestation, the municipality of Juína is known as a hub in the Northwest planning region of the state of Mato Grosso (MT).  In this sense, the present study aims to analyze the temporal evolution of changes in the use and coverage of land in Juína, and to evaluate the impacts on the health and quality of life of populations residing in the municipality. The results are structured into three manuscripts. The first article is a scientometric mapping of national and international scientific studies that address the influence of vegetation on human health, relating the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) with health outcomes. The second manuscript aimed to carry out a temporal analysis (1985 – 2021) of land use and coverage in the municipality of Juína – MT, and the assessment of impacts on water ecosystem services and climate, and their impacts on health and quality of life of the resident populations. Finally, the third manuscript used a participatory qualitative approach to explore the health and environmental trajectories of the municipality of Juína from the perspective of health professionals, with the aim of evaluating the influence of changes in land use and cover on human health. , as well as the perception of social actors about these changes. The results demonstrated that since its occupation process, the municipality of Juína has been altered by strong economic pressures, which resulted in forest loss of 16%, while all anthropic uses showed a significant increasing trend, with emphasis on pasture areas. , which occupy 15% of the total area of the municipality. Changes were observed in the ecosystem services of water provision and regulation and in the climate. These changes impact socio-ecological systems, with impacts on human health and quality of life. The evidence presented here reinforces the need to implement public policies that integrate ecosystem health and human health, aiming to protect biodiversity, strengthen ecosystem services and promote the well-being of populations.
