Urbanization has caused profound changes in natural ecosystems, significantly affecting biodiversity and the structure of sensitive biological communities, such as amphibians. Because of their highly permeable skin and biphasic life cycle, which depends on both aquatic and terrestrial environments, these organisms are particularly vulnerable to environmental changes and are widely recognized as indicators of habitat integrity. In the municipality of Cáceres, Mato Grosso, urban watercourses have been subjected to intense anthropogenic disturbances, including riparian vegetation removal, erosion, siltation, pollution, and changes in drainage patterns, resulting in increasing environmental pressure on anuran assemblages. In this context, this dissertation aimed to analyze the richness, abundance, and composition of anuran assemblages in urban watercourses in the municipality of Cáceres, considering spatial and seasonal variation, and to investigate the influence of environmental, structural, and water physicochemical variables on the organization of these assemblages. Sampling was conducted between November 2024 and September 2025 in four urban watercourses during the rainy and dry seasons, using visual encounter surveys and acoustic records. A total of 2,166 individuals belonging to 27 species, 13 genera, and five anuran families were recorded, with Leptodactylidae and Hylidae being the most representative families. The recorded richness corresponded to approximately 15.8% of the known anuran fauna of Mato Grosso, 23.9% of that recorded for the Pantanal, and 55.1% of the species known for the municipality of Cáceres. The rarefaction curve showed a strong tendency toward an asymptote, indicating high representativeness of the species richness occurring in the study area. Although assemblages showed considerable overlap among watercourses, spatial differences in species composition were detected, with greater heterogeneity observed in the José Bastos Stream. Species richness was significantly higher during the rainy season, whereas abundance did not differ between seasons, demonstrating the influence of seasonality on assemblage dynamics. Most sampling sites exhibited moderate environmental conditions, although sites with greater structural integrity were recorded mainly in the José Bastos Stream and Fontes Channel. Species richness showed a trend toward a positive association with relative air humidity and a negative association with electrical conductivity, whereas abundance was positively associated with pH and water temperature and negatively associated with watercourse width and electrical conductivity. Assemblage composition was significantly related to electrical conductivity, water temperature and depth, pH, watercourse width, air temperature, and habitat integrity. The results indicate a predominance of generalist species tolerant of environmental disturbance, consistent with environmental filtering and biotic homogenization processes associated with urbanization. Despite anthropogenic pressures and habitat degradation, the urban watercourses of Cáceres still support substantial anuran diversity and may function as breeding habitats, areas of persistence, and corridors for local fauna. Therefore, maintaining water quality, riparian vegetation, environmental heterogeneity, and habitat connectivity is essential for the persistence of these assemblages, particularly for species more sensitive to environmental change. This study provides relevant information to support urban planning, aquatic ecosystem management, and the development of biodiversity conservation strategies in urbanized landscapes of the Pantanal.
