RESUMO:

The health of professional fishermen can be compromised by several factors, including repetitive strain injuries, skin cancer, respiratory diseases, and heart disease. Lack of access to personal protective equipment and the absence of adequate health monitoring also contribute to health impairment. This thesis is presented in four manuscripts and aims to analyze the dynamic balance between physical, mental, and social health related to the working conditions and health risks of artisanal professional fishermen in the Pantanal. The first manuscript presents a clinical analysis of the health of artisanal professional fishermen in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso. The study analyzed tests such as urea, creatinine, total cholesterol and fractions, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, AST, AST, and fasting blood glucose. Laboratory test profiles were classified as hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, hyperuremia, hypercreatinemia, and normohepatic in relation to reference values. The second manuscript characterized the health of artisanal professional fishermen through nursing processes. Nursing processes were applied to 297 participants for data collection. Fishermen's health was characterized by diseases such as systolic arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and back and joint pain. The main health diagnoses of fishermen were ineffective self-management of health (44%), risk of occupational disease (21%), inadequate fluid volume (10%), and ineffective sleep patterns (9%). The third manuscript identified the connection that children of fishermen maintain with nature, highlighting the impacts on quality of life and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research analyzed 98 questionnaires from high school students, from a sample from all regions of Brazil. The children of fishermen and children of non-fishermen were compared in their responses to their quality of life, connection with nature, and mental health during the pandemic. The pandemic situation and the social vulnerability of fishermen's children, as well as the low educational level of their guardians, have negatively impacted their quality of life and mental health, such as anxiety and depression. This study highlighted the importance of ongoing research and the implementation of policies aimed at promoting connection with nature among students, especially during times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of this research revealed important aspects of the physical, mental, and social health of professional fishermen. It offers valuable insights to support the formulation of short- and long-term public strategies and actions. It provides robust data for the immediate implementation of interventions aimed at promoting and preventing diseases and health problems.
