RESUMO:
The Brazilian population is one of the most connected in the world (Scudere, 2007, p. 21). In this sense, subjects are directly linked to digital media, as it is known that they refer to all communication carried out via the Internet. According to Lógica Digital, digital media “include banners on websites, paid advertisements, commercials that precede videos, sponsored links [...]”. Furthermore, according to this source, “any content primarily based on digital media is considered digital media, even if it is not restricted to the Internet”. Thus, this research consists of investigating the construction of meaning for the linguistic expression NEW NORMAL (NOVO NORMAL), which integrates digital media—specifically in Revista Fórum, Revista Cidade Online, Revista Veja, and Correio Brasiliense, used as news outlets during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, to constitute the research corpus, we will analyze various utterances selected from headlines published during the new coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The primary object of study is the expression NEW NORMAL, given that the utterance is considered a linguistic element that integrates the text within the relationship of meanings produced in the enunciation—the "event of saying" (acontecimento do dizer). To this end, we will initially employ the "Sondagem" (Survey) procedure; the research will then be developed across three chapters: first, a historical overview of the consequences of disease outbreaks and how they resulted in epidemics and pandemics in Brazil over time, seeking to understand how past events influenced the social and historical implications in the context preceding and permeating the COVID-19 pandemic; second, the theoretical framework, exploring linguistic and theoretical dynamics from a semantic-enunciative perspective, where meanings emerge from enunciative events and the historical conjuncture in which they are inscribed. Thus, we will mobilize the theoretical constructs of the Semantics of the Event (Semântica do Acontecimento), initiated in Brazil by Eduardo Guimarães (2002; 2018), whose object of study is signification as a historical and linguistic discipline related to the enunciating subject. By developing this work, we intend to offer a significant contribution to both academia and society, promoting reflections on enunciative functioning and considering how language, history, and the subject intersect in and through language.
