RESUMO:
This dissertation examines the semantic-enunciative functioning of the Portuguese units “furar” and “atravessar” within the theoretical framework of the Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations (TOPE), developed by Antoine Culioli. The study is grounded on the principle that meaning is not a fixed entity nor a predetermined content, but the result of cognitive and linguistic operations that emerge within enunciative activity. The research challenges the traditional notion of synonymy by interpreting it not as a lexical equivalence, but as an effect of regularity that arises from the ongoing interaction between subject, language and context. The corpus consists of enunciations collected from digital media and online news portals and is analyzed through procedures of reconstruction, reformulation and paraphrase, which make it possible to describe the operations of representation, referentiation and regulation mobilized in each occurrence. The analyses show that “furar” tends to stabilize values related to rupture and discontinuity, functioning as an intervention on a resistant limit, whereas “atravessar” is anchored in continuity, duration and gradual adjustment, constituting a processual passage in which the limit is integrated rather than broken. The results indicate that the apparent proximity between these units does not constitute a fundamental synonymy but rather a field of articulation between distinct cognitive operations that produce circumstantial effects of meaning. This research contributes to studies on meaning by reinforcing the relevance of TOPE as a theoretical and methodological instrument capable of describing language as a place of continuous adjustment, where representation, referentiation and regulation are jointly articulated.
