This study is linked to the Concentration Area Studies of Linguistic Processes, within the Research Line Studies of Meaning Processes, of the Graduate Program in Linguistics (Stricto Sensu) at the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT). The objective of this research is to understand the semantic-enunciative functioning of the political slogan “Brasil acima de tudo, Deus acima de todos” (“Brazil above everything, God above everyone”), which circulated in the enunciation space of Brazilian Portuguese during the 2018 electoral campaign. The corpus consists of three enunciations composed of linguistic (verbal) and extralinguistic (non-verbal) materialities, collected from the following websites: a Twitter post (“Meu filho vai cantar o Hino Nacional sim! Brasil acima de tudo, Deus acima de todos!”); an online advertisement for a T-shirt featuring the slogan; and a news article published by CartaCapital magazine (“Vamos salvar o Brasil – Brasil acima de tudo, Deus acima de todos”). The analysis seeks to identify the meanings produced in these enunciations and to examine how such meanings are constituted and displaced through enunciative agency. Considered as events of language, the selected enunciations circulate meaning effects that are reactivated in different positions of saying, articulating linguistic (verbal) and extralinguistic (non-verbal) elements in the constitution of meaning. The theoretical framework adopted is the Semantics of the Event, based on Guimarães (2002, 2005, 2018). Additionally, we draw on scholars who develop research within this theoretical-methodological perspective, such as Dias (2018), Zoppi-Fontana (2009), and Karim (2003). From this perspective, meaning analysis is situated within the study of enunciation, understood as the event of saying.
