RESUMO:

Human interaction is mediated by language, in which categorization occurs through linguistic signs, such as words. These contribute to the development of the lexicon, which is influenced by linguistic variation, when a language has several alternative ways of saying the same thing. Sociolinguistics, subdivided into lines of sociolinguistic studies, is dedicated to the study of this linguistic diversity. The focus of the study is on Educational Sociolinguistics, which focuses on educational practices in a teaching-learning context, especially in combating linguistic prejudice and understanding how linguistic variations affect teaching. The general objective of the study is to understand how linguistic variation is treated in the Portuguese Language subject in Elementary School II, based on the investigation of official documents and handout material distributed by the Government of the State of Mato Grosso. The specific objectives include: (i) analyzing the treatment given to linguistic variation in official guiding documents; (ii) investigate the treatment given to linguistic diversity in Portuguese language textbooks; (iii) evaluate whether the treatment given to linguistic variation in the handout material matches the skills proposed by the National Common Curricular Base. The research is based on authors such as Labov (1972, 2008), Bagno (1999, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2013); Bortoni-Ricardo (2004, 2005, 2014), Cyranka (2014, 2016), Zilles and Faraco (2014), Alkmim (2003, 2001), Petter (2002), Borin (2010), Calvet (2002), Faraco and Zilles (2015), Schmidt (2016), among others, and uses the skills proposed by the BNCC as a theoretical reference. The methodology involves bibliographic and documentary research, with analysis of normative documents and handout material, aiming to verify whether the teaching of linguistic variation takes into account the linguistic heterogeneity of Brazil and addresses sociolinguistic aspects.
