ANALYSIS OF IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS USED IN THE DAILY LIFE OF THE PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE IN BRAZIL
Idioms; Idiomatic expressions; Sociolinguistics.
This present work has the general objective of analyzing the idioms adopted by Portuguese speakers in Brazil, using the speaker's context of use. The research is based on Variationist theoretical assumptions such as Xatara (1995; 1998) and Riva (2008). For this purpose, a descriptive exploratory methodology was used with a qualitative approach developed through a bibliographic survey. The data consist of Idioms taken from the Open Dictionary of Calão Idiom Expressions (2021); Onomasiological Dictionary of Common Idioms in Brazilian Portuguese Language (2009). The analysis was based on the semantic-pragmatic nature with the specific objective of knowing/recognizing the idiomatic expressions of use, identifying the meanings of isolated words, and understanding the meaning of the expressions, their origin and the situation of everyday use of each one of them.
