RESUMO:

This dissertation, developed within the Graduate Program in Education (PPGEdu/UNEMAT) under the "Education and Diversity" research line, analyzes how the cultural knowledge and practices of women from Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade (Mato Grosso) constitute forms of memory, resistance, and education. Employing a qualitative approach, the research is methodologically grounded in the principles of oral history, utilizing narrative interviews conducted in spaces significant to the participants—who are viewed not merely as interview subjects, but as co-authors and guardians of their people's knowledge. The study’s general objective is to examine the knowledge and practices of the women of Vila Bela as forms of memory and education, valuing their contributions to identity formation and the construction of popular pedagogies. Specific objectives include identifying the cultural knowledge and practices transmitted by these women, understanding how these intersect with formal and informal educational processes, and documenting their life memories through the lens of popular and liberating education. Grounded in the work of authors such as Quijano, Mignolo, Walsh, Lugones, Dussel, Fanon, and Mbembe (within decolonial epistemology) and Gonzalez, Crenshaw, Akotirene, Ribeiro, Carneiro, Davis, and Evaristo (within Black feminism), the research also engages with Freire, Caldart, Pollak, and Albuquerque, linking concepts of coloniality, ancestry, memory, and popular education. This study aims to contribute to the recognition of traditional healers, midwives, folk healers, dancers, and masters of culinary arts and oral traditions as legitimate producers of knowledge, thereby strengthening an educational approach that is plural, critical, and committed to epistemic diversity.
