INTERFACES BETWEEN EDUCATION, HEALTH AND SPORT IN THE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT OF ADOLESCENTS IN AN EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAM
Adolescent. Positive Development. Extracurricular. Participation Sport. Health Education.
Adolescence corresponds to a decisive period of human development, characterized by significant changes in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects, which mark the transition from childhood to adulthood. At this stage, individuals experience bodily transformations resulting from puberty and, in parallel, undergo a process of reorganization in their ways of thinking, feeling, and positioning themselves, making it a period that is particularly conducive to the promotion of Positive Youth Development, insofar as skills, values, and life projects are formed. However, the opportunities to experience this development do not occur equally, as they take on different forms depending on the social, economic, cultural, and family conditions in which adolescents are embedded. In this context, the general objective of this study is to understand adolescents’ perceptions of their development within an extracurricular sports participation program. To this end, a descriptive qualitative study with an exploratory and interpretive focus will be conducted, based on content analyses constructed through semi-structured interviews, using an interview guide aligned with the theoretical model of Positive Youth Development proposed by Lerner et al. (2015). With regard to data analysis, it will be carried out through content analysis as formulated by Bardin (2011), following three stages: (a) pre-analysis; (b) material exploration; and (c) treatment of results/interpretation. In order to broaden knowledge on the topic, a bibliographic review was conducted by surveying dissertations and theses indexed in the CAPES Catalog related to the following keywords: Adolescent, Positive Development, Adolescent Education, Sport, and Adolescent Health. In addition, two sections were structured on the basis of a literature review on the topic under investigation, with the aim of providing theoretical support for the analyses developed. The first section is entitled “Conceptions of Adolescence and Human Development,” and the second, “Positive Youth Development in School, Health, and Sports Contexts.” Each section was organized to encompass different analytical axes, allowing for a progressive and articulated approach to the object of study. The selection of works prioritized relevant and current contributions, ensuring conceptual consistency and scientific support for the reflections constructed throughout the research.
