RESUMO:

This master's dissertation is the result of research that arose from the researcher's concerns about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the imagination of elementary school students in primary education — the pandemic children — as well as the role of technologies and communications in this process. To address this dilemma, this research proposed an interdisciplinary perspective from the fields of Communication and Education, guided by Waldorf Pedagogy and the phenomenology of perception. It intertwines the importance of "doing," exploring the objective world, and art in the critical development of children in the face of technologies. Thus, the main objective of this work is to attempt to unveil elements of the imagination regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and Education for the research subjects through listening to and interpreting their artistic expressions. Reflections on Education were based on the anthroposophical perspective of Rudolph Steiner and the underlying reflections of Rosely Romanelli, articulated with the Phenomenological perspective of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. The notion of Imagination was worked on based on Michel Maffesoli. Thoughts on Communication, Cognition, and Education were mainly woven from Marshall McLuhan and Michel Desmurget. This is an empirical, qualitative research. The subjects were third-grade elementary school students from a school in the city of Tangará da Serra, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. The data collection technique employed was a conversation circle supported by the Art as a method technique. In summary, the research pointed to a significant prevalence in the shared imagination of the students, with the virus being represented as a monster that isolated everyone in their homes, generating anxieties; the need for school socialization to overcome isolation; technology and its underlying influence on the formal/informal education dichotomy through the internet — online games — and audiovisual media — social media channels, animations, films. Rigorously, beyond the provided discussions, this research points to an imagination about the pandemic and Education rooted in social relationships, even though the impact of the digital world appears to be hegemonic.
