RESUMO:

Forest degradation leads to biodiversity loss, impacts water resources, affects climatic conditions, and causes socioeconomic consequences. Therefore, promoting the restoration of degraded areas is essential for ecosystem recovery, and the assessment of environmental liabilities supports decision-making processes related to environmental management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the progression of forest restoration using different direct seeding techniques and to survey Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) associated with water resources using geotechnologies in the Teles Pires River watershed, located in the Mato Grosso Amazon region. Chapter 1 addressed the evaluation of direct seeding carried out in PPAs of watercourses and springs, located in the rural area of the municipality of Alta Floresta, Mato Grosso. Monitoring was conducted semiannually up to 30 months after seeding, identifying and quantifying native regenerating individuals. Simultaneously, individuals from three species with the highest frequency were selected to measure morphometric variables. The evaluated indices included diversity, evenness, and dominance, and comparisons between techniques were performed using the Mann–Whitney U statistical test. Chapter 2 consisted of the mapping of PPAs in the study area, carried out through the manipulation of cartographic databases in QGIS software using the Graphical Modeler function, which delineated them according to the rules established by Federal Law No. 12,651/2012. Both direct seeding techniques were efficient in the initial establishment of individuals. However, differences were observed over the monitoring period: the broadcast seeding area showed higher diversity, density, and consequently, a higher survival rate. On the other hand, regarding species development, better morphometric results were observed for individuals in the pit seeding area, which presented higher median values. Direct seeding proved to be an effective method for the initial establishment of native regenerants, with performance varying according to the technique used. The mapping of PPAs, along with the survey of nurseries and seed networks, provides essential support for environmental management in the Teles Pires watershed.
