RESUMO:

Angiosperms represent the largest group of photosynthetic organisms on the planet, encompassing approximately 450,000 species with high morphological and ecological diversity. Among them, the Orchidaceae family stands out, considered one of the most important in the plant kingdom due to its wide diversity and economic relevance. Within this family, the genus Catasetum is highly prominent ornamentally, currently boasting over 120 cataloged species, many of them endemic. The growing commercial interest in these orchids accompanies the expansion of the ornamental flower market, a sector in which Brazil occupies a prominent position, accounting for approximately 8% of world production. Despite the economic potential, limitations related to cultivation, propagation, and management techniques for these species still exist. The increased demand for Catasetum has intensified predatory extraction practices, compromising natural populations and environmental reserves. Furthermore, the high production costs and dependence on foreign cultivars hinder the strengthening of the national market. In this context, the search for sustainable alternatives that favor the vegetative and reproductive development of these plants becomes necessary.

Pyroligneous liquor emerges as a promising alternative, being a byproduct obtained by the condensation of smoke during the pyrolysis of wood. In agriculture, this extract has shown potential as a fertilizer and biostimulant, presenting positive results in various crops. In orchids, preliminary studies have indicated satisfactory development in species such as Cattleya intermedia and Miltonia clowesii, although scientific research is still lacking to prove its effectiveness on a large scale.
This study aims to evaluate the effects of three types of pyroligneous liquor — derived from coffee, babassu, and monkey ear — on the flowering of Catasetum sp. Parameters related to vegetative and reproductive growth will be analyzed, such as flower size, number of flower stems, flowering duration, leaf development, and dry biomass. The experiment will be conducted at UNEMAT, in Alta Floresta-MT, using different concentrations of the extracts applied fortnightly to standardized seedlings. The data obtained will be subjected to statistical analysis using ANOVA and mean comparison tests, aiming to identify the most efficient treatments for the sustainable cultivation of ornamental orchids.
