RESUMO:

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is a legume of great economic and nutritional importance, cultivated both in Brazil and worldwide. In this context, the study of germplasm collections is essential for crop breeding. This study aimed to analyze the genetic divergence of peanut accessions through agronomic and morphological characterization, using multivariate analysis. The experiment was carried out in the experimental area of the Laboratory of Genetic Resources & Biotechnology (LARG&B) at the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT), Cáceres campus, Mato Grosso, Brazil. A randomized block design with three replications was used. Each plot consisted of four rows, three meters in length, with 15 plants per row, spaced 0.60 m between rows and 0.20 m between plants. Eighteen genotypes were evaluated, 13 of which were obtained from the Active Germplasm Bank (BAG) of Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (CENARGEN), and the remainder from collections in the state of Mato Grosso. The following agronomic traits were measured: plant height, total number of pods per plant, pod length, pod width, weight of 100 pods, total pod weight, seed weight per plant, weight of 100 seeds, seed length, seed width, average number of seeds per pod, and number of seeds per plant. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Scott–Knott mean clustering test at 5%, in addition to the estimation of genetic parameters. Genetic divergence was assessed using Mahalanobis’ generalized distance (D²ii) for quantitative variables and Gower’s coefficient in the joint analysis. Cluster analyses were performed using Tocher’s optimization method and UPGMA, with reliability assessed by the cophenetic correlation coefficient, which showed values of 0.85 (agronomic traits), 0.78 (morphological traits), and 0.76 (joint analysis), indicating good clustering consistency. The relative contribution of traits, estimated by Singh’s method (1981), highlighted number of seeds per pod (NSP), total number of pods per plant (TNPP), and plant height (PH) as the most relevant variables for genetic divergence. The analysis revealed wide genetic variability among the genotypes, with the formation of distinct groups across all methodologies applied. Among the evaluated accessions, genotypes V 12548 and UNSI 2 stood out for their high dissimilarity and superior agronomic performance, indicating strong potential as candidates for peanut breeding programs aimed at developing more productive cultivars with desirable traits.
