RESUMO:
This dissertation comes from research conducted within the scope of the Professional Master's Degree in History Teaching (ProfHistória) at the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT), Cáceres campus. The research aims to explore the use of numismatics as a pedagogical tool in teaching History. The focus is the period of Getúlio Vargas' first government (1930-1945). The choice of this time frame is due to the fact that it is a period rich in historical events and complex relationships. The dissertation is structured into three chapters, each with a specific approach. In the first chapter, the research discusses numismatics as a historical source and its potential in teaching History. The second chapter enters the period of Getúlio Vargas' first government and examines the use of coins and banknotes as historical sources. It is divided into three parts, covering the provisional government (1930-1934), the constitutional government (1934-1937) and the Estado Novo (1937-1945). Within these periods, the research analyzes the coins and banknotes that circulated, relating them to the political events and practices of the time. The third chapter addresses the pedagogical reflections on numismatics in History teaching and reports on the implementation of educational actions and a virtual repository (blog) that uses numismatics as a learning tool. It discusses the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in education, highlighting how the use of technological resources and a blog as a virtual museum can enrich History teaching and will involve students in a more interactive way. Altogether, this dissertation proposes an innovative approach to teaching History, combining the richness of numismatics, the diversification of historical sources and the potential of digital technologies to involve students in an interdisciplinary and participatory learning journey. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of understanding currency not just as an economic symbol, but as a political, social and cultural manifestation that can shed light on the historical events of its time.
