RESUMO:

The main objective of this dissertation is the use of cartoons in the teaching of History. From the analysis of the main documents referring to Brazilian education in the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century, we find that only recently, based on the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN), the Law of Basic Guidelines Law 9394/96 (LDB) and the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC) is that the concern with teaching methods that use historical sources and document analysis came to be considered competences and skills that should guide the practice of history teachers in schools. Thus, following these guidelines, we made a selection of cartoons published between 1930 and 1945, a period known as the Vargas government, which portray the main political events that have become historical facts. The cartoons were selected through the National Library website, section Hemeroteca, and the periodical we chose was the illustrated magazine Careta. This work fits into the theoretical field of the history of the imaginary, and emphasizes the importance of using iconographic sources for the construction of historical school knowledge, where students, teachers and school, in a dialectical way, problematize, question, re-signify and produce original knowledge from of prescribed curricula.
