Presentation

The stricto sensu postgraduate program in Biology Teaching in the National Network (PROFBIO) has been in operation since 2017, and is currently recognized and evaluated by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), of the Ministry of Education, with a score of 5. It aims to provide professional qualifications for Biology teachers who are currently teaching in secondary education in the country's public education system, with a view to improving their performance in the classroom, both in terms of content and in relation to strategies for facilitating the teaching and learning process of Biology as an experimental science.

PROFBIO is coordinated nationally by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). It is a blended course offered simultaneously throughout the country, leading students to the title of Master in Biology Teaching, as provided for in its general regulations. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that are part of the PROFBIO National Network, such as the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT), are called Associated Institutions (IA), responsible for implementing the course at a local level and have their own regulations.

In-person classes for the course are taught on only one day a week, between Monday and Saturday (with the day and time of the classes scheduled by the IA, with the definition of the day of the week being previously established by the Course Board of each IA).
